AWANA is governed by the guidance of our County Health Commissioner as well as that of our host church, First Baptist. Because of the ever-changing landscape of the current pandemic, we are unable to guarantee if we will be able to meet in person in the fall. Having said that, we are planning to meet, whether we are able to meet in person or if we would need to begin the year using a virtual format.
Our goal at Awana is to provide a safe and loving environment where children and young people will come to know, love and serve our Lord Jesus Christ. We are thankful for God's blessing on this ministry and for the growth in numbers that we have seen. We are dependent on leaders who feel called to serve in this outreach.
Wednesdays, 6:30-8:00 PM, September 8, 2021 - May 11, 2022
Welcome to Awana! This acronym is taken from 2 Timothy 2:15 which says, “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”
The acronym then stands for: Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed.
Awana is a Christian club for boys and girls from age 3 through 18 years. The club is broken down into:
- Cubbies--for 3-5 year-olds, for Preschoolers before they start Kindergarten. At this time we will be unable to have a Cubbies Club headed up by a leader. However, there are materials available if you are interested in leading your own child through this course. Please phone Commander Ron Thomas (650/400-4656) or email him (firstname.lastname@example.org) for further information.
- Sparks—for Kindergarten through Second Grade.
- Truth and Training—for Third through Sixth Graders.
- Trek and Journey—for Seventh Graders through Seniors in High School.
The Awana Club will be meeting on Wednesday evenings from September 8, 2021 through May 11, 2022. See Club Nights and breaks included in "Special Nights and Club Meetings" schedule below.
Each evening the children are involved in three basic activities. They have a time of Bible Stories/Study or Stories of Great Christians along with worshipful music. Another segment involves the children Reciting Memory Verses they have been learning to earn awards. The Game Time provides active participation by the children with lots of cheering and encouragement!
